Shannon Airport - Shannon, Co Clare 061-712000

One of the three most important airports in Ireland, Shannon Airport has a long history of transatlantic service. Originally an important refuelling stop for flights bound for North America, it has since developed into both an important regional hub and a strategic last stop for savvy passengers capitalising on the US pre-screening facilities for international passengers. Today, Shannon Airport serves around 1.75 million passengers every year. The main carriers here are Aer Lingus and Ryanair, and they are backed by several US-based airlines and a network of charter routes connecting to holiday destinations in across Europe, the Canaries and the Balearics. This is a single-terminal facility that’s compact and easy to navigate. It was renovated at the turn of the 21st century, delivering modern traveller conveniences including free wireless internet and airport shopping by The Loop, a famous Irish airport retailer with additional outlets in Dublin and Cork Shannon Airport also enjoys a culinary claim to fame. Joe Sheridan was once the official airport chef. His gift to society was the original Irish coffee, a beverage now enjoyed around the world. Shannon Airport is located less down 10 minutes from Bunratty on the M7 motorway. Buses go to and from the Airport to Bunratty every hour.
