Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2016

Bunratty welcomes all visitors to County Clare here for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann Inis 2016 the 14th to 22nd of August! 

Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is an annual festival held to celebrate Ireland's cultural traditions in music, singing, dance and the Irish language - Gaeilge. It's held annually for one week every August and moves to a different town every few years, Ennis, the county town of County Clare (15 minutes from Bunratty), is hosting the Fleadh in 2016 and 2017. During the festival musicians and singers compete to be Fleadh Champions and traditional Irish music and song are celebrated with many gigs, concerts, exhibitions and other related events.

Bunratty will be busier during the Fleadh but it will be business as usual with many businesses extending their opening hours, making extra capacity, etc., so book where possible and enjoy the craic agus ceoil! Many establishments will also host events for the Fleadh including music gigs, singing sessions and more, so check locally for all the details. 

Bunratty Bluegrass Festival 2016

2016 is the year that this fledgling Bluegrass festival develops wings and competes on the National Bluegrass events calendar.

With an international line up that features Barry & Holly Tashian and the E5 Bluegrass Band from the US, Demolition String Band US and Monogram from the Chez republic you can expect the best of concerts.

Cup O’Joe, a young family trio from Armagh who are making a name for themselves on the international stage will also feature in the concerts, along with Irish Bluegrass veterans “Woodbine” and another family Bluegrass Band “Greenshine” from Cork.

Legendary pickers and session motivators John Nyhan and the Kelleher’s will further enhance the Cork connections. Added to the mix, the local bluegrass supporters, Leo Hayes & Bill Forester along with visiting musicians, and you have the makings of a top quality Bluegrass Festival.

With Fri. Sat. & Sun. concerts priced at €15 and over 20 free pub sessions, you’ll be spoilt for choice without breaking the bank. Weekend concert tickets are available at €30 from Brendan at 086 8464509 please text to book.

Once again the Bunratty Folk Park will take centre stage on Sunday the 23rd.Oct. There will be 8 scheduled one hour performances by most of the bands taking part in the festival. A great way to walk off the excesses of Saturday night, while still enjoying the best of Bluegrass!

Sixmilebridge Folk Club who promotes the festival will be catering for those of who are interested in where all this Bluegrass started, so there’s two Irish trad sessions thrown in for good measure.

Gallagher's 'At Your Service'

Gallagher’s Seafood Restaurant and JP Clarke’s Country Pub of Bunratty were pleased to welcome renowned hotelier Francis Brennan of the Park Hotel, Kenmare along with Maeve Cafferkey and Darren Molloy of Ted's Bar, Achill as part of RTE’s ‘At Your Service’ programme. 

Barry Tierney, General Manager of Gallagher’s of Bunratty, was happy to share his advice and experience with Maeve and Darren as part of their best practice visit. The programme on Ted’s Bar, Achill featuring Gallagher’s and JP Clarke’s of Bunratty will air in early 2017. 

Author Roisin Meaney celebrates The Reunion at Gallagher’s of Bunratty

Gallagher’s and JP Clarke’s of Bunratty are pleased to welcome author Roisin Meaney to an event to celebrate the publication of her thirteenth novel The Reunion

Roisin will join Gallagher’s on Saturday the 16th of July at 2pm for a reading from The Reunion and a chat about her works to date. There will be musical accompaniment, light refreshments and all are welcome to attend this free event.

‘We are delighted to celebrate Roisin, a regular visitor to us, and her literary achievements at this event’ says Barry Tierney, General Manager at Gallagher’s and JP Clarke’s. ‘We hope her readers, new and old, will join us for this afternoon of good writing, chat and refreshments to mark the occasion of The Reunion’s publication.’

Commenting on the event Roisin said ‘I was thrilled to be contacted by Barry - and charmed to be associated with a place with such an excellent reputation as Gallagher’s to celebrate the publication of my thirteenth book. The event promises to be a really lovely occasion, and I’m hoping that lots of readers will come and help me send my newest arrival into the world.’

Park & Ride Bus for Giant's Festival, Limerick

A park and ride bus system has been organised for this weekend to accommodate goers to the Giant's Festival in Limerick. It will operate between 12.30 and 7pm on Saturday and from 10.30am to 4pm on Sunday. Visit royaldeluxelimerick.ie for more information on the festival itself.
